In her video Christmas greeting<\/a>, President Angela Ittel thanks all members of TU Braunschweig for their commitment and wishes them a peaceful and relaxing winter break as well as a reflective Christmas season.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Reminder: We are taking a Winter break!<\/h3>\n

All facilities and institutes will be closed from 23 December to and including 7 January. The aim of the extended closure<\/a> is to save energy, especially in view of the additional costs next year. We have put together some tips on how you can save a lot of energy during this time.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Creating more visibility for families …<\/h3>\n

…was the message last Friday at the traditional welcome talk for new parents with TU President Professor Angela Ittel. In the rooms of the parent-child room and the \u201cSandkastenzentrale\u201d in the old building, families had the opportunity to exchange ideas and get to know each other as well as receive the popular baby bags<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Control chip successfully integrated into quantum computer<\/h3>\n

Researchers at the Institute of CMOS Design have now developed a control chip<\/a> that achieves more qubits with fewer wires and therefore less heat. The success of the new control unit will be used with the quantum computer as part of Quantum Valley Niedersachsen.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Large-scale wind wake experiment in the Great Plains<\/h3>\n

TU Braunschweig and the Institute of Flight Guidance participated in the international wind energy measurement campaign AWAKEN<\/a> in the USA. In Oklahoma, TU’s research aircraft collected data on the wake of wind farms. The data is important for predicting energy yield.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Architecture students design pavilion on Domplatz<\/h3>\n

An architectural pavilion<\/a> is to be built next year on the Cathedral Square in the centre of Braunschweig, which will serve as an open space for cultural events and exhibitions during the summer months. Three teams of students, working with an architecture firm, were very successful in the competition and were awarded the top three places.<\/p>\n

\u25ba A look at the future of coastal cities<\/h3>\n

Venice suffers from flooding several times a year, especially during the cooler seasons. This is due to the increase in extreme weather events caused by climate change and rising sea levels. The Future Urban Coastlines junior research group<\/a> at TU Braunschweig recently had the opportunity to see for themselves what this means for the city.<\/p>\n

\u25ba International graduate school with Chile<\/h3>\n

Chile offers the opportunity to research extremely adaptable bacteria that can break down petroleum residues in the Antarctic, but also in the desert. Researchers from Braunschweig and Chile now want to tackle this together. Dr Ignacio Poblete<\/a> from the Universidad de Chile was a guest at BRICS to deepen the cooperation.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Best Student Award<\/h3>\n

Rodrigo de Vasconcellos Louren\u00e7o<\/a> from the Institute of Applied Physics was honoured at the International Conference on Nitride Semiconstructors for his work on the physical understanding of light emission from quaternary films.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Comeback of the evening canteen<\/h3>\n

News from the Studierendenwerk! At the request of the students, the evening canteen<\/a> is back! Starting on 8 January, there will be two meals from Monday to Thursday from 16:00 to 19:30, one of which will be the Niedersachsenmen\u00fc.<\/p>\n

\u25ba BRICS Women Network<\/h3>\n

How can I plan my career as a female scientist? How do I present myself professionally and how do I reconcile family and career? The BRICS Women Network<\/a> is a platform for female Masters and PhD students to exchange ideas on gender equality in the life sciences.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Funding lines to support new research activities at TU Braunschweig<\/h3>\n

The annual New Horizons<\/a> call for proposals on specific topics gives university researchers the opportunity to apply for support for larger research ideas. This year, applications can be submitted until 15 March in the fields of Humanities and Social Sciences, Life Sciences and Computer Science\/Mathematics.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Become a Fellowship Host<\/h3>\n

Established researchers can present themselves as hosts for international early career researchers with an MSCA Postdoctoral Fellowship on the website of the \u201cEuropean Liaison Office of the German Research Organisations \u2013 KoWi\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n
