\u25ba International network: Another partner for TU Braunschweig Down Under<\/h3>\n

TU Braunschweig and the University of Melbourne<\/a> plan to intensify their cooperation in the areas of research and teaching in the future. This was officially recorded in Melbourne by TU President Angela Ittel and Prof. Mark Cassidy from the University of Melbourne in a Memorandum of Understanding.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Future talk “AI, drive me home!”<\/h3>\n

On 20 September from 6 p.m., scientists from TU Braunschweig and DLR will give an insight into the current state of research on autonomous and connected driving<\/a> at the Haus der Wissenschaft and via livestream<\/a>. Lower Saxony’s Minister of Science Falko Mohrs has invited them to the third Future Talk.<\/p>\n

\u25ba DFG Elections 2023<\/h3>\n

Online elections for the DFG Review Boards will take place from 23 October to 20 November. The electoral office is currently preparing the electoral roll and relies on the support of all institutions<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Federica Ferraro: Sustainable alternatives to fossil fuels<\/h3>\n

One factor for a more sustainable future is the replacement of fossil fuels with more climate-friendly options. Jun.-Prof. Federica Ferraro is researching this at the Institute of Flight Propulsion and Turbomachinery and in the Cluster of Excellence SE\u00b2A. In the interview<\/a>, she explains how her fascination for combustion physics was awakened.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Simona Silvestri: “My research is to make space more accessible”<\/h3>\n

Since May, Prof. Simona Silvestri has been researching and teaching at the Institute of Space Systems on a new space infrastructure for the production and storage of propellants. In the interview<\/a>, she explains how our thinking about space transportation systems needs to change to enable new and longer missions in space.<\/p>\n

\u25ba No stress for mussels and barnacles<\/h3>\n

To ensure that marine organisms feel at home in the new saltwater wave current flume<\/a> of the Leichtwei\u00df Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources (LWI) quasi-sea conditions are being created. The facility is due to be completed by the end of this year. We visited the construction site.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Research starts on West Nile fever<\/h3>\n

The West Nile virus is transmitted by mosquitoes and is increasingly found in Europe \u2013 also due to global warming. So far, there is neither a specific therapy nor a vaccine. Here, TU Braunschweig will work together with international partners on new therapies and vaccines against this virus<\/a> as part of an EU Horizon 2020 project.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Climate crisis up close: Research trip to China<\/h3>\n

As part of a visiting professorship, Prof. Robert H\u00e4nsch was on a collecting expedition near the northernmost city in China. This area is known for the occurrence of permafrost. But Prof. H\u00e4nsch and his colleagues on site experienced some big surprises<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Sustainably into the semester abroad<\/h3>\n

TU student Wiebke Hoffmann cycled to Norway for her Erasmus+ semester abroad. In the magazine<\/a>, she looks back on the 2,550-kilometre bike tour.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Inaugural lectures<\/h3>\n

Prof. Nicole M\u00fccke \u201eMathematische Herausforderungen in Data Science\u201c, Prof. Maximilian Merkert \u201eKonzepte und Methoden f\u00fcr Optimierungsprobleme mit mehreren Akteuren\u201c, and Prof. Benedikt Jahnel \u201eInteragierende Zuf\u00e4llige Systeme\u201c will hold their inaugural lectures on 19. September<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Railway Day<\/h3>\n

The Railway Day<\/a> is taking place this weekend. The two railway institutes (IfEV and IVE) are participating together with Faculty 3 in a big event on Schlossplatz on Saturday to present the Braunschweig rail transport region.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Zukunftsregion: Kooperationsstelle part of the steering group<\/h3>\n

The Kooperationsstelle Hochschulen-Gewerkschaften SON (Cooperation Centre for Universities and Trade Unions) is part of the steering group<\/a> of the “Zukunftsregion S\u00fcdOstNiedersachsen” (Future Region South-East Lower Saxony). It is thus one of 24 members in the steering group that decides on the awarding of funding.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Horizon Europe Bioeconomy and environment<\/h3>\n

On 10th of October the TH Hamburg organises an information event<\/a> together with the national contact point about the calls 2024. Registration for the German-language presence event in Hamburg is open until 5 October.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Energy monitoring updated<\/h3>\n

On the Energy Saving website <\/a>you can view the consumption and savings of heating energy and electricity. Two graphs depict the data for monthly consumption as well as the \u2013 now also with the data up to August.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Register now for SE\u00b2A research club \u201cchangING\u201d<\/h3>\n

The research club changING of the Cluster of Excellence SE\u00b2A will start a new round after the autumn holidays. Students in grades ten to twelve can register now<\/a>. changING offers insights into research for sustainable aviation and the chance to research and experiment yourself.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/h3>\n

Our darlings of the week are very sporty these days. Currently, the TU team has already collected more kilometres than last year in the city cycling event. And our runners also prove their fitness. Groups from many different institutes took part in the public service relay marathon<\/a>. The team from the Institute of Communications Technology took an excellent second place in the overall standings. In addition, Konrad Stamer from the team of the Institute for Building Materials, Concrete Construction and Fire Safety was the fastest runner of the marathon.<\/p>\n
