\u25ba Save the Date: Staff Assembly 2023<\/h3>\n

On Thursday, 14 September, the Staff Assembly 2023<\/a> will take place in the Aula at the Haus der Wissenschaft. All TU employees are cordially invited to attend. Suggestions, questions or topics can be submitted in advance by email<\/a> to the staff council.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Energy savings in the laboratory<\/h3>\n

Research and teaching operations in the facilities of the Faculty of Life Sciences are comparatively energy-intensive. Nevertheless, it was possible to significantly reduce heat and electricity consumption here in the first half of the year. Two energy use coordinators from the Chemistry and Bio Centre reveal how this was possible<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Projects in the humanities, social sciences and cultural studies funded<\/h3>\n

Among the 17 projects funded by the MWK<\/a> with a total of 3.7 million euros are two projects of TU Braunschweig: The projects “Topographies of Jewish and Christian Minorities in Lower Saxony in Historical Comparison” and “Visual Subject Information: Automatic Image Processing for Plants in Historical Prints, Manuscripts and Herbaria” will each receive around 250,000 euros.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Towards a joint simulation platform<\/h3>\n

The programming language Julia and the finite element simulation toolbox Ferrite.jl, which is co-hosted at TU Braunschweig, were the focus of a summer school<\/a> at Tampere University organised by the Institute of Applied Mechanics and the Research Training Group 2075. The aim is to develop a joint simulation platform and use it to study the fracture behaviour of eco-concrete.<\/p>\n

\u25ba The fungi connection<\/h3>\n

Prof. Bernard Slippers, Director of the Forestry and Agricultural Biotechnology Institute (FABI) at the University of Pretoria in South Africa, was a guest at the Institute of Genetics.Together with Prof. Andr\u00e9 Flei\u00dfner, he reports in our magazine<\/a> on how this connection arose from a foray into forestry science and why all roads in the fungal world lead to Braunschweig.<\/p>\n

\u25ba \u201cNew and old architecture merge here\u201d<\/h3>\n

In another episode of our series “Future City Goes Global”<\/a>, Chantal Karadag takes us to Groningen, NL. At the European Rural Geographies Conference, the researcher from the Institute for Sustainable Urbanism presented the latest results of the SpACE Lab at ISU in the field of urban-rural relations.<\/p>\n

\u25ba \u201cMultidisciplinary research with great societal benefit\u201d<\/h3>\n

Since June 2023, Matthias Schiedel is a professor at the Institute of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry. He is interested in the development of new active substances for the treatment of inflammatory diseases and infections. What he appreciates about Braunschweig and why he has specialised in drug development in particular, he reports here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Can ChatGPT be used for pharmacy?<\/h3>\n

Prof. Hermann W\u00e4tzig from the Institute of Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry, together with PhD student Yannick Wilke, tested whether and how useful ChatGPT could be in pharmacy. He talks about the results in the podcast “PZ Nachgefragt”<\/a>.<\/p>\n

… to Komali Valishetti. The PhD student in the Zoological Institute was awarded the Christine Beattie Award<\/a> for the best presentation by a junior scientist at the European Zebrafish Conference in Krakow, PL.<\/p>\n

\u25ba\u00a0 Student House and Audimax selected for architecture prize<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Two TU Braunschweig buildings have been shortlisted for the BDA Prize Lower Saxony 2023<\/a>: the Student House and the Audimax. The jury selected 27 buildings in total. The winner will be announced in Hanover on 23 November. So let’s keep our fingers crossed!<\/p>\n

\u25ba Chaoskollektiv nominated for Femtec Award<\/h3>\n

With the lecture series “System. Macht. Ungerechtigkeit”, the student initiative created visibility for forms of discrimination and social inequalities. Now the collective has been nominated for the Femtec Award 2023. Voting<\/a> for the award winners is possible until 1 September.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Founding with the EXIST start-up grant<\/h3>\n

Figures from the monitoring report on EXIST-funded start-ups<\/a> show that the programme produces economically sustainable start-ups. TU Braunschweig has been active in the EXIST start-up network for many years and has accompanied many teams into self-employment. You can find more information about founding at the TU on the Entrepreneuership website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Open International DFG Calls<\/h3>\n

Joint calls<\/a> between the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) and different international partner organisations are currently open for several research fields, for example with Spain<\/a> and Argentina<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/h3>\n

Fair sharing instead of throwing away \u2013 our darling of the week rescues leftover food. In the new food sharing station in the Audimax, unused vegetables, snacks and more can be deposited to take home. What is currently available in the fair sharing station can also be found on the website<\/a>.<\/p>\n
