\u25ba IT Security at TU Braunschweig<\/h3>\n

There will be several online events on IT security next week. For instance the Digital Town Hall<\/a> on 2 May at 11:30 will address this topic. Furthermore, the IT Security Awareness Days<\/a> will start the same day and run until 17 May. One of the topics will be emails as the most important gateway for cyber attacks.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Jupiter mission: Boom successfully deployed<\/h3>\n

One week after the launch, the instrument mast on the JUICE spacecraft was able to start its work. One of the sensors installed on it was developed at TU Braunschweig. The deployment of the boom<\/a> is an important prerequisite for the success of the ESA mission.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Construction in times of crisis<\/h3>\n

Rising energy prices and material shortages as a result of the pandemic and the Ukraine war are also affecting the construction sector. In an interview, Professor Patrick Schwerdtner<\/a> from the Institute for Construction Engineering and Management talks about the price increases and prognoses for the coming years.<\/p>\n

\u25ba New sports hall at Campus Nord<\/h3>\n

An asset for sports science education and university sports is the sports hall<\/a> that has now opened at Campus Nord. The completely renovated inclusion-oriented and diversity-conscious exercise facility improves the quality of studies and enriches active campus life.<\/p>\n

\u25ba AI in process engineering<\/h3>\n

As part of the Heisenberg Professorship, which was awarded to Professor Carsten Schilde<\/a> in 2022, scientists are working on AI methods. With their help, process engineering processes along the manufacturing process chain are to be facilitated in battery production, among other things.<\/p>\n

\u25ba An insight into the city\u2019s history<\/h3>\n

The masonry of a high medieval bridge, which has lain sealed in the ground for centuries, is being examined by the Institute for Building History<\/a> in Hildesheim. The research is expected to yield concrete results on the history and construction of the 12th century stone arch bridge.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Visiting doctoral student from Brazil investigates natural substance against tropical disease<\/h3>\n

Matheus Lopes Silva is working on the search for active substances against so-called Neglected Tropical Diseases, which can be obtained from natural substances such as plants and fungi. Here he reports on his work at TU Braunschweig<\/a> at the Institute of Food Chemistry.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Final round for the Collaborative Research Center AMC<\/h3>\n

… at the 3D Pioneers Challenge<\/a>, the international design competition for additive manufacturing processes and advanced technologies. The project on the integration of prefabricated fibre reinforcement in Additive Manufacturing in Construction will be exhibited at Rapid.Tech 3D in Erfurt from 9 to 11 May, with the awards ceremony on 10 May. We are keeping our fingers crossed!<\/p>\n

Prof. Ulrike Fauerbach, Institute of Building History, will hold her inaugural lecture \u201cVermessen\u201d<\/a> on 3 May.<\/p>\n

\u25ba History of Democracy Biographically<\/h3>\n

From 2 May, the Department of History and History Didactics of the Institute of Historical Studies, along with the Institute for Braunschweig Regional History (IBRG) and the association \u201cAgainst Forgetting – For Democracy\u201d, will be organising a lecture series on the topic \u201cHistory of Democracy Biographically\u201d<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Innovators Connect Tandem in India<\/h3>\n

Master students and researchers now have the opportunity to apply for the \u201cInnovators Connect Tandem 2023\u201d<\/a>. During the 10-day fully-funded exchange programme from 4 to 15 September, Master’s students, researchers and early-stage start-ups interested in starting a business will gain valuable insights into the start-up ecosystem in India, can establish international contacts and advance their entrepreneurial projects.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Gauss Medal awarded to number theorist<\/h3>\n

The mathematician Prof. Maryna Viazovska was awarded this year’s Gauss Medal<\/a> by the Braunschweig Scientific Society. The Ukrainian-born number theorist conducts research at EPFL Lausanne.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Corona Crisis Staff dissolved<\/h3>\n

More than three years ago on 3 March 2020, the Corona Crisis Staff<\/a> met for the first time under the leadership of Vice President Dietmar Smyrek. Following the 342 meeting, it came to an end this week. After the last measures expired on 8 April, the crisis team got disbanded. A big thank you to the 14 members for their dedicated work!<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/h3>\n

Our darlings of the week are the many PhD graduates of the Faculty of Life Sciences and the Master’s graduates from the Architecture Department. After a 3-year break due to covid, a PhD celebration was finally held again with around 300 guests. In total, more than 250 doctoral students completed their doctorates during the pandemic, 66 of whom celebrated their success last week in the Audimax. The 56 architecture graduates had a toast to their graduation on Thursday in the Architecture Pavilion. Congratulations and continued success!<\/p>\n
