{"id":53780,"date":"2022-12-02T17:09:35","date_gmt":"2022-12-02T16:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/magazin.tu-braunschweig.de\/?post_type=kb_magazin&#038;p=53780"},"modified":"2022-12-02T17:09:35","modified_gmt":"2022-12-02T16:09:35","slug":"mourning-for-professor-meinhard-von-gerkan","status":"publish","type":"kb_magazin","link":"https:\/\/magazin.tu-braunschweig.de\/en\/m-post\/mourning-for-professor-meinhard-von-gerkan\/","title":{"rendered":"Mourning for Professor Meinhard von Gerkan"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"news-detail__teaser\">\n<p class=\"entry\">Technische Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig mourns the death of its long-time Professor of Building Theory, Design in Structural Engineering A, Professor Meinhard von Gerkan, who passed away in Hamburg on 30 November 2022 at the age of 87.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"news-detail__text\">\n<p>Meinhard von Gerkan was a graduate of the Architecture degree programme and graduated in 1964 with a diploma thesis on an air passenger terminal building in Hanover-Langenhagen under Professor Dieter Oesterlen. A year later he and his office partner Volkwin Marg, also a graduate from Braunschweig, founded gmp (Gerkan, Marg und Partner) in Hamburg, which is still operating worldwide today.<\/p>\n<p>Just ten years later &#8211; in 1974 &#8211; he was appointed as successor to Professor Oesterlen to the professorship of Building Theory, Design of Structural Engineering A, which he held until 2002. The Architecture Pavilion, a design by Professor von Gerkan, was also created during this time.
