\u25ba New dialogue formats<\/h3>\n

President Angela Ittel invites all employees and students of TU Braunschweig to four new dialogue formats<\/a>. The dialogue formats offer a unique opportunity to get involved with our university and give input on its development. With the Campus Hour<\/a>, the first format will start on 3 November. The President looks forward to stimulating discussions and initiatives that will come out of it.<\/p>\n

\u25ba New Director of the University Library<\/h3>\n

As of 1 November, Robert Str\u00f6tgen<\/a> will head the UB. As the previous deputy director and head of the IT and research-related services department, he knows the UB very well and, as an IT specialist, gives digitisation a further boost.<\/p>\n

\u25ba The TU Braunschweig as the focus topic<\/h3>\n

The new issue of the quarterly journal<\/a> of the Braunschweig Cultural Heritage Foundation focuses on our university. The focus of the reporting is on the research priorities of mobility, metrology and the city of the future.<\/p>\n

\u25ba German-Japanese Summer<\/h3>\n

Guest lectures, a quantum computer workshop and Japanese sights: One year after the start of the cooperation with Keio University in Tokyo, Professor Vadim Issakov<\/a> shares what makes the collaboration so lively.<\/p>\n

\u25ba On the trail of the unsolvable?<\/h3>\n

Two lectures on a millennium riddle of the 7 most important unsolved mathematical problems, the Navier-Stokes equations<\/a>, will take place on 1 and 8 November. They are part of the nationwide series of events “The 7 Greatest Adventures in Mathematics”<\/a>, organised by two TU mathematicians. The equations are about a basic model of fluid mechanics, which the SE2A cluster deals with<\/p>\n

\u25ba \u201cLiving space freshly compressed\u201d<\/h3>\n

With its research on the digitalisation of construction, the CRC Transregio 277 “Additive Manufacturing in Construction (AMC)”<\/a> attracted the attention of the computer technology magazine “c’t”. The detailed article <\/a>highlights the special features of 3D printing in construction and its potential.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Causes of Long COVID<\/h3>\n

Professor Martin Korte, head of the research group “Neuroinflammation and Neurodegeneration”, has recently published a book on the long-term consequences of COVID-19 disease. In an interview<\/a> with the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), he now explains which mechanisms may trigger Long COVID and what happens in the brain during the disease.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Congratulations<\/h3>\n

… to Jan H\u00f6lzer<\/a>! For his Bachelor’s thesis at the Institute of Philosophy, he won third place in the Weizenbaum Study Award of the “Forum InformatikerInnen f\u00fcr Frieden und gesellschaftliche Verantwortung e.V.”. The work was supervised by Prof. Nicole Karafyllis and Prof. Claus-Artur Scheier.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Another hearty congratulations<\/h3>\n

Five trainees<\/a> finished their training as microtechnologists and office management assistants in the summer with a 1 before the decimal point. They have now been honoured by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce as the best trainees in the region. A big thank you also goes to their trainers!<\/p>\n

\u25ba TU Orchestra hands over donations<\/h3>\n

The orchestra collected donations<\/a> for the association Freie Ukraine Braunschweig e.V. at its last three concerts. 1.430 concert-goers followed the call and donated a total of 3.000 Euro, which has now been handed over<\/a> to the association. Thanks to all the donors!<\/p>\n

\u25ba Call for entries: One University – One Book<\/h3>\n

The Klaus Tschira Foundation, in cooperation with ZEIT Verlag, is once again inviting applications for the programme “One University – One Book”<\/a>. The 2023 call is once again looking for the best ideas and actions to debate a book of one’s choice. The deadline for applications is 27 January.<\/p>\n

\u25ba FEMentoring for female junior researchers<\/h3>\n

The FEMentoring programme<\/a> supports female doctoral candidates, postdocs and junior professors in their academic careers and supports them with one-to-one mentoring. The application deadline for the last round of the programme is 15 November.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Communicator Award 2023<\/h3>\n

The German Research Association (DFG) is awarding a prize of 50,000 euros in recognition of outstanding achievements in science communication<\/a>. Applications are possible until January 05.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/h3>\n

A day full of highlights – After two years of corona-related online events, we were able to welcome our first-year students in person again. 3.200 students are starting their Bachelor’s or Master’s studies in the winter semester and were welcomed with streamers and la ola waves at the first-year students\u2019 central reception<\/a> in the Eintracht stadium and the subsequent info fair!
