\u25ba Video message from the Executive Board of the University on energy-saving measures<\/h3>\n

Due to the energy crisis, we are all called upon to reduce our energy consumption. President Prof. Angela Ittel and Vice-President Dietmar Smyrek appeal in their video message<\/a> to tackle this together. The goal can only be achieved if all measures are implemented individually by all TU members. It is to be expected that we will all be affected by restrictions in comfort. “Certainly, the measures will have to settle in. Here we are dependent on your feedback and the joint exchange.”<\/p>\n

\u25ba Saving energy at the workplace<\/h3>\n

If you would like to find out right away at your IT workstation which measures are particularly effective in saving energy, you will find helpful tips in the handout<\/a> from the GITZ IT Centre. It can be viewed in the download area on the energy-saving website<\/a> after logging in.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Welcome event for first-year students and information exchange again in presence<\/h3>\n

On 24 October, the central first semesters\u2019 welcome<\/a> in the Eintracht Stadium and the information exchange on campus will be the motto. In addition to the welcome by President Prof. Angela Ittel, a colourful programme with Laola Welle and a choreography as well as lots of information awaits the new students.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Happiness Lessons at 16 primary schools in Braunschweig<\/h3>\n

Around 35 student teachers will be teaching “happiness lessons” from November. The Gl\u00fcGS project <\/a>was initiated by Tobias Rahm from the Institute for Educational Psychology together with the book author Carina Mathes. About 300 students are taking part.<\/p>\n

\u25ba The voiced Gender-Asterisk<\/h3>\n

Does the use of the glottal stop – the short pause that virtually represents the gender asterisk when speaking – affect the intelligibility of a text? The Institute for Educational Psychology<\/a> tested this in an experiment with an educational video.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Between Tibetan tradition and pink bouncy castle<\/h3>\n

A second expedition has now taken Siran Liang, PhD student at the Institute for Geosystems and Bioindication, back to the Tibetan Plateau. In the fourth part of her logbook<\/a>, the ethnographer reports on a visit to a special festival for Tibetans.<\/p>\n

\u25ba TransferHub opens digital marketplace<\/h3>\n

Institutes, research institutions and companies can post offers and requests on the marketplace<\/a> free of charge. Scientists can offer, for example, model development, use of software, implementation of design thinking processes, but also free capacities for equipment or laboratories. The TransferHub team<\/a> will be happy to support you.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Intermediate review of the Adaptronics Research Group<\/h3>\n

On 4 October, the interim evaluation<\/a> of the research group “Ultrasonic monitoring of fibre-metal laminates with integrated sensors” took place. Experts involved in the research group reviewed the results and evaluated the goals for the next three years, for which funding of three million euros has been applied for.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Congratulations<\/h3>\n

… to Prof. Stephan Scholl, Institute of Chemical and Thermal Process Engineering. He was awarded the Emil Kirschbaum Medal 2022<\/a> for his comprehensive work on process intensification in conventional apparatus and on innovative apparatus developments to increase energy and resource efficiency.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Congratulations<\/h3>\n

… also to Pascal Kapitza. The architecture graduate received an award<\/a> for his master’s thesis “FINISTERRE” at the BDA SARP Award. The Young Architects Award is presented by the Association of German Architects (BDA) and the Polish Association of Architects (SARP).<\/p>\n

\u25ba Youth, Future, Politics<\/h3>\n

\u2026 is the title of a lecture series starting on 24 October, organised by the Institute for Educational Science<\/a>. With a special focus on the consequences of technology and climate change, perspectives of future, youth and protest research, educational theory and political education will be discussed.<\/p>\n

\u25ba About the things: Material, Substance, Remnant and Resource<\/h3>\n

This is the title of another lecture series<\/a>, which also begins on 24 October. The lectures look at, among other things, the origin of materia in our universe, the resource water, precarious substances, art objects, poetics and discourses of waste but also on animal things and their metamorphoses.<\/p>\n

\u25ba UK-German Funding Initiative in the Humanities<\/h3>\n

The Arts and Humanities Research Council (AHRC) and the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG, German Research Foundation) are calling for joint UK-German research proposals<\/a> in the humanities. The deadline for submissions is 15 February.<\/p>\n

Starting Monday, numerous orientation programmes for first-year students<\/a> will begin again at our university. Whether it’s a campus rally, a city tour or the welcome campaign on the TU’s Instagram profile<\/a> – they all ensure a good start to your studying.
