Professor Antje Schwalb has been appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) for a second term. The members of the Board of Trustees also elected the head of the Institute of Geosystems and Bioindication (IGeo)<\/a> as chairperson. Professor Schwalb has been a member of the board since July 2015.<\/p>\n

There, together with 14 other experts from science and industry, she advises the management of the Federal Institute and the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Climate Protection. In particular, this involves scientific, technical and economic questions of securing raw materials and environmental protection at home and abroad, as well as medium and long-term planning and the internal organisation of the Federal Institute.<\/p>\n

“As chair, I will be able to moderate a very diverse and international committee in which expertise from research, business, authorities, the EU, etc. comes together and men (7) and women (8) share the work,” enthuses Professor Antje Schwalb about her renewed appointment. “It is particularly important to me to stimulate fruitful discussions from which options for action and cooperation can be derived for the future.”<\/p>\n

Sustainable use of the Earth’s resources<\/h3>\n

According to Professor Schwalb, the Board of Trustees supports the BGR’s approach of developing strategies and standards for the sustainable use of the Earth’s resources. The aim is to minimise or even completely avoid environmental pollution resulting from the exploitation and use of natural resources. In this way, the Federal Institute makes an important contribution to securing our own livelihoods and at the same time supports developing and emerging countries in building prosperity.<\/p>\n

The trustees are appointed for a term of five years and meet twice a year under the guidance of the chairperson.<\/p>\n

The Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources (BGR) is the central research and advisory institution of the Federal Government in the field of geosciences and natural resources. Among other things, the BGR advises on the long-term security of Germany’s raw material and energy supply, the final disposal of highly radioactive waste and sustainable geo-resource management.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
