\u25ba Online-HIT 2022: Higher Education Information Days on 9 and 10 June<\/h3>\n

At our digital Higher Education Information Days (HIT)<\/a>, prospective students can obtain comprehensive information about our range of courses. A total of 68 events offer space for insights and exchange. New this year will be a virtual fair on Friday, 10 June. The HIT platform<\/a> is now online, where participants can click together an individual timetable in advance.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Easier enrolment for refugee Ukrainian students<\/h3>\n

TU Braunschweig enables refugee students from Ukraine<\/a> to enrol for the summer semester 2022 in a simplified application procedure and with longer application deadlines. Further information and support is available on the website “We care for Ukraine<\/a>“.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Focus 2022: First Generation Students<\/h3>\n

Due to the initiative of President Angela Ittel and Equal Opportunity Office Manager Anouk Almstedt, TU Braunschweig is focusing on the topic of First Generation Students<\/a> this year. Through various counselling and support services as well as workshops and events, barriers are to be broken down and social diversity at the university is to be promoted.<\/p>\n

\u25ba A warm welcome<\/h3>\n

We welcome Prof. Kai Schr\u00f6ter<\/a>! He is the new head of the Department of Hydrology and River Basin Management at the Leichtwei\u00df-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources (LWI). Flood risks, flood forecasts and warnings are among his research topics.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Father research: Students have their say in the “Superheroes” podcast<\/h3>\n

Whether questions about parental leave, homosexual fatherhood or “What do men experience when they become fathers?”, in the Superheroes student podcast<\/a>, sociology students reflect on their findings around fatherhood research, which they gained during seminars based on scientific literature and media contributions.<\/p>\n

\u25ba False colour in the UV LED<\/h3>\n

Even though UV light is not perceptible to the human eye, the picture of the month June<\/a> shines colourfully. For an efficiency analysis, the light emission of a crystal inside a UV LED was made visible and translated into false colours. This makes it possible to estimate how energy-efficient the later LED can be used.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Minister President Weil visits Quantum Valley Lower Saxony (QVLS)<\/h3>\n

Last Tuesday, the scientists of the QVLS presented the first prototypes of a quantum computer to Lower Saxony’s Minister President Stephan Weil<\/a>. As one of the founding partners of the alliance, TU Braunschweig presented contributions from nano and semiconductor technology.<\/p>\n

\u00a0\u25ba Freeing the cat with quantum gates<\/h3>\n

The QuantumVR<\/a> project offers a playful introduction to the quantum world. Researchers have developed an Escape Room in which quantum gates can literally be touched \u2013 thanks to virtual reality.<\/p>\n

\u25ba From digitalisation to internationalisation<\/h3>\n

An understanding of railway systems in other countries is to be built up through digital teaching offers. The focus here is on the virtual railway operations laboratory of TU Braunschweig’s Institute of Railway Systems Engineering and Traffic Safety (IfEV)<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Phase 2 of the Initiative for Higher Education Development completed<\/h3>\n

For two days, more than 60 members of TU Braunschweig, together with external “critical friends”, intensively and productively discussed and sharpened the future university development concept of our university at the final workshop of phase 2 of the Initiative for University Development<\/a>. This marks the successful end of the 2nd phase of the Initiative for Higher Education Development.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Changing times in science \u2013 panel discussion with Jan-Martin Wiarda<\/h3>\n

On 10 June, a panel discussion<\/a> on the question of what the Ukraine war means for research and teaching will take place in the Haus der Wissenschaft. Science journalist Jan-Martin Wiarda will give a keynote speech. Guests will be Prof. Melanie Brinkmann, Prof. Volker Bach and Prof. Stefan S\u00fcllow as well as Prof. Andreas Terfort.<\/p>\n

\u25ba DLR_Uni_Summer_School is taking off again!<\/h3>\n

During the Summerschool from 26 to 30 September, students will test theoretical knowledge in practice during research flights and in the simulator. The research flights will take place with TU Braunschweig research aircraft and the DLR Cessna 208B Grand Caravan. Please send applications<\/a> to Lisanne Azzam-Riecher by 15 July.<\/p>\n

\u25ba International Start-up Day 2022<\/h3>\n

The Entrepreneurship Hub invites all interested students and employees to the International Start-up Day 2022<\/a> on 24 June. Interested persons will gain insights into the local start-up ecosystem in the Braunschweig region in workshops.<\/p>\n

\u25ba New GradTUBS event programme goes online<\/h3>\n

The new workshop programme of the GradTUBS Graduate Academy starts on 1 July. Registration for GradTUBS events in the second half of the year can be made from 2 June. An overview of the entire programme has already been released and can be viewed on the website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba “Kids want to know” \u2013 podcast training<\/h3>\n

As part of the children’s holiday programme, the Haus der Wissenschaft is offering a two-day podcast training course for children aged 8 to 12 on 18 and 19 June. The price also includes optional participation in an excursion to the \u201cphaeno\u201d (Wolfsburg) in August. Tickets<\/a> are already available online.<\/p>\n

\u25ba “Discrimination in the world of work \u2013 recognising and acting”<\/h3>\n

This is the topic of the annual conference of the Cooperation Centres for Universities and Trade Unions in Lower Saxony and Bremen on 9 June. Lectures and workshops will deal with legal aspects and different dimensions of discrimination and explore options for action together. Registration<\/a> is still possible at short notice.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Travel support to apply for Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowships<\/h3>\n

TU Braunschweig\u2019s Research Services and European Office offer a program<\/a> to support international postdocs in applying for a Marie Sklodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellowship. Suggestions may be submitted until July 22.\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

\u25ba Seed Funding Call with Tampere University<\/h3>\n

The information event<\/a> on the internal seed funding call for initiating research cooperation with Tampere University on the topic of “Future City” will take place on 16 June. The deadline for applications is 15 September.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Research Funding: Colleagues offer support during the application process<\/h3>\n

TU Braunschweig\u2019s Research Funding Network<\/a> has been relaunched under a new name. It was launched in 2015 as \u201cDFG Network\u201d to motivate third-party funding for research and the promotion of early career scientists. We talked to Prof. Wolf-Tilo Balke and Prof. Peter Hecker about what has changed with the reboot.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling(s) of the week<\/h3>\n

There are six of our darlings of this week: the “clouds<\/a>” on the west fa\u00e7ade of the Audimax! The artwork was removed in February due to the storm “Ylenia”. Now that they have been repaired and fitted with an improved suspension, they have been hanging again on our largest lecture hall in the heart of the main campus since Wednesday. Just in time for the visit of a jury.
