\u25ba On the way to more sustainability<\/h3>\n

\u2026 is TU Braunschweig at the moment. In view of the German goal of climate neutrality by 2045 and rising energy costs, the university must also be environmentally aware and sustainable<\/a> in its teaching, research and administration. We took a look around the campus to see where we are with this.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Study sustainability with NEEMO<\/h3>\n

The new degree programme “Sustainable Energy Systems and Electromobility”, or NEEMO for short, will start in the winter semester. Graduates are expected to create the technical basis for the energy transition in the future. In an interview<\/a>, Prof. Bernd Engel, head of the elenia Institute for High Voltage Technology and Energy Systems, explains how students will be prepared for this.<\/p>\n

\u25ba First steps for drone test field<\/h3>\n

With “Flybots”<\/a>, an infrastructure is to be created at Braunschweig Research Airport as the basis for a future drone test field. To this end, TU Braunschweig and DLR will develop a propulsion test stand, a drone cage for flight testing and a system for drone detection.<\/p>\n

\u25ba NFF doctoral prizes awarded<\/h3>\n

On 6 May, after the Corona break, the prizes from 2020, each endowed with 2,500 euros, were ceremoniously presented to Dr Christian Thies and Dr Linus Frob\u00f6se. With the NFF Doctoral Award<\/a>, the Automotive Research Centre Niedersachsen has for the fourth time honoured two young scientists for their outstanding scientific work.<\/p>\n

\u25ba A warm welcome<\/h3>\n

We welcome Prof. Svenja Vieluf<\/a>! She has been a professor of school education with a focus on teaching research at the Institute of Educational Science since 1 April. In her projects, she focuses on the topics of teaching quality and heterogeneity as well as the change in schools due to refugee migration.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Mail from \u2026 Santa Barbara<\/h3>\n

A scholarship from the German-American Fulbright Commission gave PhD student Fabian Kleischmann<\/a> from the Leichtwei\u00df-Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources (LWI) the opportunity to advance his research project at University of California. About his stay he reports in our series “Mail from…”. Attention: The photos could awaken holiday longings!<\/p>\n

\u25ba\u00a0 Another “Mail from …”<\/h3>\n

…this time from Braunschweig. Here Lisa-Katharina M\u00f6hlen<\/a> from Vienna reports on her experiences as a research assistant at the Institute of Educational Sciences. As part of a binational doctoral project, she is researching the question of which factors contribute to the stagnating implementation of international law on inclusive education in Germany and Austria.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Exploring the research station with VR<\/h3>\n

With their scicomm project, Dr Matthias Beyer’s Isodrones team is working on a “360-degree interactive study site”. Anyone who wants to experience the research site in the tropical dry forest of Costa Rica up close using VR glasses will have the opportunity to do so on 1 June at the Institute of Geoecology. Interested people can register via a participation tool<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba About cities of short distances<\/h3>\n

…, climate-friendly and social urban planning and her own architectural studies, Prof. Tatjana Schneider<\/a>, Head of the Institute for the History and Theory of Architecture and the City, talks on Deutschlandfunk Kultur.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Smart Farming<\/h3>\n

In the “5G Smart Farming” project, the Institute for Mobile Machines and Commercial Vehicles is investigating how networked future technologies can be used in agriculture. The innovation portal “Besser Smart” spoke with Dr Jan Schattenberg<\/a> about how drones, robots and artificial intelligence enable more individual and sustainable farming.<\/p>\n

\u25ba International network for scientists at risk<\/h3>\n

Scholars at Risk is an international network of 600 research institutions that offers safe residence and research opportunities to researchers who are at risk in their home countries due to political persecution, violence or oppression. Since March, TU Braunschweig has also been a member of Scholars at Risk<\/a> and has already enabled three scientists to continue their research.<\/p>\n

\u25ba New IT governance website<\/h3>\n

The IT Governance boards are now also fully mapped on the website<\/a>. After logging in with the TU user ID, visitors receive comprehensive information on the CISO staff unit and the individual IT boards.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Science Slam on environmentally friendly air transport<\/h3>\n

In cooperation with the Cluster of Excellence SE2A, the Haus der Wissenschaft Braunschweig invites you to the next Science Slam<\/a> in the auditorium of TU Braunschweig on 20 May. A total of six scientists* from the Cluster will present their current research projects on sustainable and environmentally conscious flying in entertaining short talks. Tickets for the evening are already available.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Career paths in the museum landscape<\/h3>\n

What impact does digitalisation have on career paths in the museum world? What skills are required in the museum of tomorrow? This is the topic of the discussion round “Career paths in the museum landscape” organised by GradTUBS and the Brauschweig museums at the Herzog Anton Ulrich Museum on 25 May. Registrations are possible by email<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba KidsFlitzParcours<\/h3>\n

Small vehicles to ride fast for small and big children, e-scooter-parcours, bike stations – the Kids Flitz Project Team<\/a>\u00a0invites all children and families on Saturday, May 21, 13-17, Grotrian parking lot (B\u00fcltenweg, parcours between numbers 88 and 89).<\/p>\n

\u25ba New massage chair in the sports center<\/h3>\n

In TU Braunschweig sports center, students, employees as well as external people can now use a new massage chair<\/a> to get away from everyday life. The audiovisual relaxation system offers a shiatsu back massage in combination with light and sound deep relaxation. There are various programs to choose from.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Citizen Science Competition<\/h3>\n

Ideas are called for which make science experienceable locally and invite citizens to participate in research. The focus should be on improving one’s own environment and also the society of one’s own city and community in a sustainable way. The deadline for applications<\/a> is 19 June.<\/p>\n

\u25ba International partners in Horizon Europe<\/h3>\n

Up to date, 7 countries agreed to provide national funding for the participation of their institutions in Horizon Europe projects: Australia, Japan, Mexico, New Zealand, Republic of China, Switzerland and South Korea. The European Commission published a guideline<\/a> how to receive the individual funding.<\/p>\n

\u25ba KlarText special prize for the best infographic<\/h3>\n

Klaus Tschira Foundation awards scientists from various STEM subjects who have completed their doctorate in 2020 or 2021 with at least the grade “very good” for the successful visualization<\/a> of their research as an infographic. The deadline for submissions is June 5.<\/p>\n
