Where do universities currently stand in the digitization of their administrative processes? What is already working well and what tasks or challenges lie ahead? Dietmar Smyrek, Principal Vice President of TU Braunschweig, talks about this in an interview<\/a> with the magazine “Modus” of the German Rectors’ Conference.<\/p>\n

\u25ba 3D-printed batteries<\/h3>\n

Cheaper, more sustainable, more flexible, more powerful \u2013 these are the attributes of a new battery generation: Solid-state batteries that rely on sodium<\/a> instead of lithium. They enable variable production through 3D printing processes. A consortium is planning production-ready manufacturing by 2025.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Congratulations!<\/h3>\n

… to Dr Matthias B\u00fccker<\/a>! As the new Assistant Professor for Urban Geophysics at the Institute of Geophysics and extraterrestrial Physics, he is developing methods for exploring the subsurface in urban areas. In the interview, he talks about how his research has already taken him to mountain peaks as well as to the jungle.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Farewell to Professor Georg-Peter Ostermeyer<\/h3>\n

The Director of the Institute for Dynamics and Vibrations is retiring<\/a>. Prof. Ostermeyer was managing director from 2000 to 2022. Especially his commitment to teaching and the quality of his lectures as well as his “MacGyver Ideas Competition”, which he launched in 2005, will be remembered for a long time.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Development of further education<\/h3>\n

As one of five pilot universities, TU Braunschweig will be undergoing the further education audit<\/a> of the Stifterverband and the Heinz Nixdorf Stiftung over the next 14 months. The aim is the strategic further development of the further education sector.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Aerospace Forum on 21 April about air taxis<\/h3>\n

The Aeronautics Research Centre Niedersachsen (NFL) invites you to the Aerospace Forum<\/a>. The topic of the online event will be “Business models and possible applications for air taxis \/ eVTOLs”. Experts from industry and research, including Prof. Georg Garnweitner from the Institute of Particle Technology, are invited to the discussion round.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Add-On Fellowships for Interdisciplinary Life Science<\/h3>\n

Joachim Herz Foundation awards a total of 50 fellowships<\/a> to doctoral and postdoctoral researchers who conduct research on interdisciplinary issues in the field of biology. Applications are accepted until 07 June.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Darling of the week<\/h3>\n

Our darling of the week is making a true comeback<\/a>. Starting next week, Mensa 1 will open its dining hall again. The other refectories, canteens and food trucks of the Studentenwerk in Braunschweig, with the exception of the 360\u00b0 and the cafeteria Mensa 2, will follow on 19 April. Besides the FFP2 mask requirement, there are no access restrictions.<\/p>\n
