Together with members of the Core Research Area, President Angela Ittel exchanged views on this topic. To discuss their research and visions they met at the ISU Space Lab on the 12th floor of the Architower. In her spotlight <\/a>Prof. Ittel reports on the meeting.<\/p>\n

\u25ba How comprehensible is the gender asterisk?<\/h3>\n

The Institute for Educational Psychology<\/a> tested this in two experiments. Students were randomly given texts with only masculine forms or with gender asterisks. The results have now been published in \u201cFrontiers in Psychology\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Architecture and infection prevention<\/h3>\n

The Institute of Construction Design, Industrial and Healthcare Building is researching how new room and building planning can reduce infections in hospitals. In the InfectControl video<\/a>, Dr.-Ing. Jan Holzhausen and Michael Bucherer talk about the challenges.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Picture of the month: Understanding how batteries age<\/h3>\n

The “headspace GC\/MS system”<\/a> is an eagerly awaited addition to the Battery LabFactory’s diagnostic line. It makes it possible, for example, to examine surface deposits in the components of a battery and thus develop longer-lasting batteries.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Dr. Volker Wittstock awarded honorary professorship<\/h3>\n

Dr. Volker Wittstock (PTB)<\/a> is a renowned expert in the fields of building acoustics, acoustic measurement technology and the treatment of uncertainties in acoustics. His lectures at the TU Braunschweig are popular because he is able to convey complex relationships precisely and clearly.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Maximilian Merkert optimises mobility with mathematics<\/h3>\n

As an applied mathematician, he particularly likes the combination of basic theory and current application. At the TU Braunschweig, for example, he has been conducting research as a junior professor since October<\/a> on how traffic light intersections can be improved.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Science Council appoints Prof. Sebastian Stiller<\/h3>\n

The German \u201cWissenschaftsrat\u201d<\/a> has appointed Sebastian Stiller, Prof. at the Institute for Mathematical Optimisation, to the working group evaluating teacher training in mathematics. At the request of the Standing Conference of the Ministers of Education and Cultural Affairs of the L\u00e4nder in the Federal Republic of Germany, the working group is to help improve the quality of education and counteract the high dropout rates in the corresponding degree programmes.<\/p>\n

\u25ba BLB Challenge Cup 2021 for Christian Thies<\/h3>\n

Dr. Christian Thies from the Institute of Automotive Economics and Industrial Production was awarded the 2021 Challenge Cup of the BatteryLabFactory Braunschweig (BLB)<\/a>. The award was given in recognition of his research work on the sustainability of batteries.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Humboldt Research Fellowship for International Postdocs<\/h3>\n

The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation enables international postdocs from all disciplines to spend a research stay in Germany<\/a>. This is a great opportunity to attract young scientists from all over the world to TU Braunschweig. This is also the case for Dr. Sharareh Rostam Niakan Kalhori<\/a>, a visiting scientist at the Institute of Medical Informatics.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Funding Opportunity with Israel – Nieders\u00e4chsisches Vorab<\/h3>\n

Applications for research cooperation<\/a> between Lower Saxony and Israel can be submitted to the Volkswagen Foundation until March 3, 2022. This year, the life sciences and medicine are addressed.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Phenomenally digital: ProDiGI funding line<\/h3>\n

Applications for funding digitally and internationally oriented courses and modules can still be submitted until January 16 as part of the Promoting Digital education through Global Interconnection project<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Invitation to exchange round<\/h3>\n

The Project House invites all interested employees in technology and administration to a digital exchange round on January 19, 11-12 h, as part of the project “Flexible Working”. The invitation with access options and further information is available on the information portal<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Future Day for girls and boys<\/h3>\n

On Future Day, pupils are offered insights into various professions and courses of study that are suitable for expanding the gender-specific spectrum of possible professions. You can register your offer for the next Future Day on April 28, 2022 by February 7, 2022 here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Dream career in science<\/h3>\n

What can successful careers in science look like and which factors influence them? Prof. Simone Kauffeld will answer these and other questions on January 20 at an event organised by the Kooperationsstelle Hochschulen-Gewerkschaften<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Warning of scam e-mail<\/h3>\n

The CISO staff unit\u00a0is currently warning of a widespread wave of fraudulent emails<\/a>. The emails allegedly come from the direct superior and simply ask for immediate feedback. If you respond, the scammers ask you to buy voucher codes and forward them to them.<\/p>\n

\u25ba Public health services (\u00d6GD) are looking for volunteers again<\/h3>\n

Above all, support is needed in contact tracing of infected persons. If you can imagine a secondment and your manager also agrees to it, you can find more information here<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u25ba New Year’s raffle<\/h3>\n

MINT 4 TU \u2013 the TU’s overall strategy to attract women in STEM \u2013 starts the new year with a raffle<\/a> of streaming tickets for the film “Picture a scientist \u2013 Women of Science”. The Equal Opportunities Office is giving away 15 tickets.<\/p>\n
