Reichertz Institute for Medical Informatics (PLRI) since October 2021. In Professor Thomas M. Deserno\u2019s research group, she is conducting research on clinical deterioration prediction in \u00a0health setting using deep learning methods. Photo credits: Max Fuhrmann\/TU Braunschweig<\/p><\/div>\n<p>More specifically, Dr. Sharareh Rostam Niakan Kalhori is working on the early automated diagnosis of clinical events in smart homes and cars. To do this, she draws on machine learning and artificial neural network methods. &#8220;This work is important to me personally; If we succeed in recognising deteriorations in the condition of our patients more timely and accurately, this will improve emergency care, and also support the independence of elderly or impaired people in particular,&#8221; she says.<\/p>\n<h3>About the person<\/h3>\n<p>Dr. Sharareh Rostam Niakan Kalhori was born in 1974 in a western province of Iran. After graduating from the Iran University of Medical Sciences in Tehran, she studied Informatics for her PhD at the University of Manchester, UK. She is currently an associate professor at Tehran University of Medical Sciences, located in Tehran, Iran. From October 2021 to April 2023 \u00a0she will be a Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the PLRI.<\/p>\n<h3>About the scholarship<\/h3>\n<p>The Georg Forster Research Scholarship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation is aimed at academics with a doctorate and above-average qualifications from all disciplines from emerging and developing countries. As support for their research projects in Germany, the scholarship holders receive personal supervision in addition to the scholarship contribution.
