The crowd was overwhelming yesterday at the vaccination campaign<\/a> in the Rebenring sports hall. President Prof. Angela Ittel thanked the vaccination team on site for their dedicated efforts. Vera Wesselkamp received an \u201cAI Talent\u201d award. Firas Al-Hafez and Dr. Rania Rayyes received the new awards in the field of robotics.<\/p>\n We welcome Professor Ilhan \u00d6zgen<\/a>. As new junior professor for \u201cModelling of Urban Environment Interfaces\u201c, he brings his expertise to both the Institute of Geoecology and the Leichtwei\u00df Institute for Hydraulic Engineering and Water Resources. Most recently, he conducted research at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory in California, USA.<\/p>\n At the Institute for the Specialized Didactics of Natural Sciences Dr. Luzie Semmler<\/a> has set up an Escape Room. Here, chemistry students can do a somewhat different laboratory practical. We talked to her about creativity in chemistry classes.<\/p>\n Three awards were won by architecture students Guisong Zhang and Mengyue Feng<\/a> for their design \u201cStadtkrone_Hafenplatz\u201d. The work on a 1970s building in Berlin was created at the Institute for Design and Architectural Strategies (IDAS).<\/p>\n Dr. Lukas Patalag<\/a> started his one-year research stay at the Institute of Organic Chemistry in July \u2013 funded by a Feodor Lynen Research Fellowship of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation. His host is Professor Daniel B. Werz. Together they have developed the fluorescent dye \u201cBOIMPY\u201d.<\/p>\n Residual stresses play a role when heat is applied during component machining, e.g. in gears or other components in the automotive and aerospace industries.
