Designing Thinking Machines: Reasoning in the Era of Physical AI<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Imagine a future where machines do more than just perform tasks; they\u00a0reason, understand, and collaborate in ways similar to humans. The\u00a0pursuit of machines capable of reasoning has a rich history, from Alan\u00a0Turing\u2019s foundational work to today\u2019s rapid advancements in robotics.\u00a0As artificial intelligence becomes integrated with physical systems,\u00a0we are witnessing a transformation in how machines operate within\u00a0human-centered environments, requiring not only precise actions but\u00a0also the ability to reason about their behavior with safety and\u00a0societal considerations in mind.<\/p>\n

In this talk, I will share my vision for shaping the design of safe\u00a0autonomous systems, emphasizing the need for a new computational\u00a0paradigm. Leveraging recent developments in information technology\u00a0that facilitate data sharing and autonomous systems collaboration,\u00a0this pathway would enable machines to aggregate knowledge, engage in\u00a0collective reasoning, and make decisions collaboratively.<\/p>\n

I will conclude with an outlook on the potential impact of these\u00a0innovations for science, technology, and society, highlighting\u00a0opportunities to build a more interconnected, transformative, and inclusive future.<\/p>\n

Selma Saidi is a W3-Professor of Computer Engineering at the Technical\u00a0University of Braunschweig. With over ten years experience in hardware\u00a0and software design for safety-critical systems, She is dedicated to\u00a0creating safe and trustworthy computing.\u00a0 She completed her doctorate\u00a0at VERIMAG, an internationally renowned institute founded by Turing\u00a0Award laureate, where she set standards in designing reliable embedded systems.<\/p>\n

Passionate about contributing and transforming innovative and fundamental ideas into practical solutions, Selma Saidi leverages a strong background in formal methods, hardware\/software co-design, and\u00a0system safety. Her research emphasizes cutting-edge applications in\u00a0automotive technology, avionics, aerospace, and human assistive\u00a0robotics, collaborating with industry leaders such as Airbus, ONERA, Bosch, and BMW.<\/p>\n

She is the initiator of the European Initiative on Autonomous Systems Design (ASD). She is developing autonomous systems that are safe, trustworthy, and socially responsible, from assistive technology for the blind and visually impaired to broader societal benefits.<\/p>\n

Selma Saidi ist W3-Professorin f\u00fcr Computer Engineering an der Technischen Universit\u00e4t Braunschweig. Mit \u00fcber zehn Jahren Expertise in der Hardware- und Softwareentwicklung f\u00fcr sicherheitskritische Systeme widmet sie sich der Schaffung sicherer und vertrauensw\u00fcrdiger Rechensysteme. Sie promovierte in Frankreich am VERIMAG, einem international renommierten Institut, das von Turing-Preistr\u00e4gern gegr\u00fcndet wurde, und setzte dort Ma\u00dfst\u00e4be bei der Entwicklung zuverl\u00e4ssiger eingebetteter Systeme.<\/em><\/p>\n

Mit Leidenschaft f\u00fcr die Umsetzung und Transformation innovativer und grundlegender Ideen in praktische L\u00f6sungen verf\u00fcgt Selma Saidi \u00fcber einen fundierten Hintergrund in formalen Methoden, Hardware-\/Software-Co-Design und Systemsicherheit. Ihre Forschung konzentriert sich auf hochmoderne Anwendungen in den Bereichen Automobiltechnik, Avionik, Luft- und Raumfahrt sowie assitive Robotik, wobei sie eng mit f\u00fchrenden Industriepartnern wie Airbus, ONERA, Bosch und BMW zusammenarbeitet.<\/em><\/p>\n
